Getting there

Mount Tambora is located on the island of Sumbawa in the province of West Nusa Tenggara.

From Bima to Tambora

You can fly to Bima (BMU) either from Lombok (LOP) two times a day with Wings Air

or 3 times a day from Denpasar (DPS) with Wings Air.

We can organize for you to be picked up at Bima airport with a private car for IDR 1.500.000 (4 hours/one way) The driver has to go back the distance that same day, it’s not an easy drive, so believe us that the price is fair.

From Labuan Bajo (Flores)

Take the ferry from Labuhan Bajo to Sape (6-7 hrs) it leaves around 9 a.m and arrives around 3-4 p.m. Then take a taxi to Bima and overnight in Marina Bay Hotel.

From Sumbawa Besar to Tambora

Wings Air and Garuda Indonesia fly to Sumbawa Besar (SWQ) from Lombok (LOP)

The price of our chartered boat from Sumbawa Besar to Calabai-Tambora is IDR 3,000.000 one way.

The price of our chartered boat from Labuhan Aji village on Moyo to Calabai-Tambora is IDR 2,000.000 one way.

As shown on this picture you can also bring your motorbikes.

Another way of going from Moyo Island to Tambora is by crossing Moyo on the back of a motorbike to the north-east side if the island (Rp400.000 per bike) and cross the bay of Saleh to Calabai on a small outrigger (Rp300.000). You can also do this using your own bikes.

People coming from the direction of Bima often choose to continue their journey in the direction of Moyo Island and Sumbawa Besar, after visiting Tambora. It’s possible for us to arrange this on your behalf.
